About Yoga

‘The word Yoga derives from Sanskrit and means to connect or unite.  Yoga helps us to grow closer to our inner selves by making us more aware, more attentive to our bodies and our feelings.’

Vanda Scaravelli

Yoga seeks to unite the body and the mind through physical movements coordinated with the breath.  This brings us back into the present moment, offering us a means of reconnecting with our bodies and stilling our minds.

Yoga is a moment to pause, it is time for ourselves.  The nature of Yoga is one of compassion and harmony, not competition with others, or yourself.  It is a personal practice, even when experienced in a class.

‘… Yoga is a practice that any person, regardless of age, sex, race, or religious belief can use to realise [their] potential.’

Donna Farhi

‘Yoga is a means of balancing and harmonising the body, mind and emotions.’

Swami Satyananda Saraswati
